Dear Children and Parents of Year 1,
We hope you have all had a lovely week whether you have been learning at home or back in school. It has been lovely to welcome some more of you back to school this week and look forward to welcoming a few more of you on Monday for the final week of term. It is hard to believe it is the end of the year already.
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of Year 1 including all the children, parents and staff for showing many of our school values at this difficult time. We have seen such resilience and perseverance from our children and their families. We hope you, our school community, have felt the staff’s commitment and dedication at this time. We have all worked in unity to continue our learning and stay safe together. Believe it or not children, even the adults have been learning new skills during lockdown!!
We have one last week of home learning tasks for those of you at home and we hope you are still having fun completing the tasks. Some of the activities will help you to introduce yourself to your new teacher. Please try to complete the activities and email them to the class email before the end of term so the activities can be forwarded to the new teacher. Please include the child’s full name and class on the work.
You should have received your child's annual school report by now; these were posted out to the home address for children who have not been in school. In the envelope was an A5 slip of paper telling you what class your child will be moving into in Year 2 this September. Click here to watch a short video from their new Year 2 class teacher introducing themselves.
For any children who would like to continue practising their learning during the summer holidays we will make sure there are books on your Bug Club account and some activities you can use on Purple Mash. However, please understand the teachers will not be monitoring these sites throughout the holidays. You could also encourage your child to complete simple activities like writing shopping lists, short stories, cards or messages along with solving simple addition and subtraction calculations. The children could also practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to help them to practise their timetables. The children deserve a break too, so this does not need to be formal learning. These are just ideas of short activities the children may choose to do.
We hope you enjoy your last week of learning before the summer holiday. We look forward to seeing lots of your work in our emails. It has been a very different year than normal but remember we are so proud of all of you and hope you all have a calm, safe and enjoyable summer holiday with your family. We look forward to seeing your smiley faces in September.
We also hope all of our families were happy with the children’s school reports. We hope they reflected all their hard work in school and at home this year.
Take care of yourselves and your family, continue to laugh and create special memories during the summer holidays.
