Our Safeguarding Commitment

Our Safeguarding Commitment

Here at William Austin Infant School we firmly believe that safeguarding children is everyone’s responsibility and that everyone who comes into contact with children and their families/carers has a role to play. We are fully committed to actively promoting a culture of vigilance where children’s welfare, safety and protection are of paramount importance at all times. We ensure that our approach to safeguarding is child-centred and always consider what is in the best interest of the child.

Our school and its staff fully recognise the contribution we make in protecting children from harm as well as supporting and promoting the welfare of all the children who attend it.

Our aims are:

  • to provide a safe and secure environment where children can learn effectively.
  • to ensure appropriate action is taken for protecting children from maltreatment.
  • to prevent impairment of children’s health or development.
  • to ensure that children are able to grow up in circumstances consistent with safe and effective care in order for all children to have the best outcomes in life.

At William Austin Infants, everyone is committed to safeguarding and we all share this value of commitment together.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass operates in all police forces across England.  The process helps to support schools in providing emotional support and practical help to children who have/are experiencing domestic abuse in their household.

When police attend an incident of domestic abuse, with children living in the household, a notification is sent to relevant school/s via their Single Point of Contact for Operation Encompass as soon as it is reasonably possible to inform us of the incident that has occurred. We can then use this information to decide on the appropriate level of support that the child requires.

All information and actions taken is recorded according to the schools normal Safeguarding policy and procedures.

The Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for Operation Encompass is the Deputy Safeguarding Lead/Family Worker Mrs N Wright.

PREVENT

Prevent is part of the Governments CONTEST strategy and is about safeguarding people and their communities from threats of terrorism. The aim is to prevent people from supporting and being drawn into any forms of terrorism.  At William Austin Infant School we are committed to safeguarding our pupils against radicalisation. As part of our Safeguarding and Child Protection duties, we are dedicated to building children’s resilience to radicalisation by actively promoting Fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, tolerance and understanding of those with different beliefs and faiths, individual liberty and mutual respect.

The statutory guidance refers to the importance of Prevent awareness training and came into effect as of the 1st July 2015.  Any concerns in relation to the Prevent duty are reported in the same manner as a safeguarding concern and is actioned according to the schools safeguarding policy and procedures.

All staff receive training in Prevent and the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for Prevent is the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead/Family Worker Mrs N Wright.
