World Book Day 2025 was a huge success as we continue to embed our school’s reading culture. This year’s theme was ‘Read Your Way.’ This is based on six principles which when established, help create a lifelong habit of reading for pleasure.
Throughout the day each year group took part in our ‘World Book Day Quiz’ which is always great fun for children and adults alike. Children received brand new books for their class book corners including graphic novels, poetry books and some non- fiction books.
Each class created a ‘Book blanket’ with the books from their book corner to discuss the books that they are enjoying, which ones they want to change and they created wish lists based on their reading interests. We will be updating our class wish lists with this information.
Children in Year 1 and 2 created reading mood boards which helped them to reflect on how reading makes them feel, how they like to read, where they like to read and what they are interested in reading next. This was a great opportunity for children to consider themselves as readers, whilst also helping adults get to know them better as readers to support them in making book choices of what to read next.
Classes created ‘book cafes’ where a range of books (magazines, graphic novels, poetry books, non-fiction books, picture books, chapter books and even big books) were available to help expose children to different types of books to get them motivated and interested.
Children had a chance to listen to audio books during milk time and this year we had a pop-up book shop where each child chose a World Book Day book to take home, keep, read and enjoy.
Finally we invited parents and carers in to join in our reading fun. It was lovely to see so many parents and carers who hopefully enjoyed the time reading with their child or completing a story related activity. Thank you to everyone who came and made our day so special.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
