Our Road Safety Ambassadors help raise road safety awareness and promote road safety issues to everyone in the school. They remind the children how to stay safe as road users. They are in the process of producing a short video to remind children how to stay safe while walking on the road.
They monitor the traffic on William Austin Road to help them better understand the volume and type of traffic on the roads around our school. They discuss safety, environmental and mathematical questions based on the data collected. E.g. What is the most common type of vehicle on William Austin Road? How many more cars were seen than vans? How do most people travel on William Austin Road? What could the effect of this be on our air quality and safety ? The children will develop an awareness of the effects of traffic on air pollution and safety. They will also consider the importance of choosing a sustainable mode of transport to travel to school during Walk to School Week in May.
