School Lunches

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free hot meal in school every day under the Universal Free School Meals Scheme. The lunchtime menu is displayed on Parent Notice Boards, and is available here on the school website. The menu is as varied as possible, giving a choice of foods including vegetarian meals; it certainly doesn't consist of chips every day! All meat served by the kitchen is Halal, and abm Catering's supplier is certified by the HMC. A drink of water is provided with the school meal. It is not possible for children having school dinners to bring their own drinks.

Our kitchen manager is always happy to speak to parents regarding any concerns. You can contact her directly on 07704 146834.

Each class of children has a Mid-Day Supervisor who cares for them, helps them collect their meal and encourages them to eat their food. Children are not forced to eat their food, but if they consistently eat very little, this will be reported to the parent. All children with packed lunches will bring home what they don’t eat so that parents can keep a check on their food intake.

Allergies and Food Intolerances

Please ensure that you inform the school of any allergies or food intolerances that your child may suffer from, eg; nuts, wheat, dairy, and provide us with any appropriate medication where needed.

Children with dietary requirements (eg: allergies, vegetarian) are identified through wearing a sign with their name and photo, listing their specific needs so that the kitchen staff are fully aware of what the child can or cannot eat.  It is  therefore important that you update us if there are any changes to your child's dietary requirements so that the information on these signs is correct.

Written medical evidence from your family doctor or hospital consultant is required by the kitchen for any food allergies your child may suffer from.

We are a nut-free school, and we request that if your child has a packed lunch you do not include any food that may contain nuts, such as Nutella and peanut butter, to minimise any risk to those that may be allergic.
