Phonics Outcomes

Phonics Outcomes in 2018

Phonics: The Phonics Screening is a check of pupil’s phonic knowledge. It is administered in June in Year 1 and monitors the percentage of pupils who have achieved the threshold standard - the expected progress.

Pupils who do not meet the standard in Year 1 re-take the Phonics Screening Check in Year 2.

The threshold standard for expected progress in 2018 was 32 out of 40 marks.

Since 2012 we have made significant improvements in our phonics standards overtime. The last 4 years reflects an ongoing upward trend and the school has closed the gap with the National average year on year and in 2018 is now above National average, a really huge achievement for us. “Raise standards in Year 1 phonics” (OFSTED priority, January 2015). The school has rigorously made improvements to our phonics outcomes and phonics learning for our pupils and we will continue to do so.
