World Book Day 2021
We had a different celebration this year due to most of us being at home. This didn’t mean that the celebrations stopped! Each class attended a live class story time and strange things were afoot. Instead of school children we met characters such as Harry Potter, comic superheroes, fairy tale princesses, Winnie the Witch and even the Tooth Fairy! They had popped out of the pages of our favourite stories. To celebrate the importance of a daily bedtime story some children attended in their pyjamas and shared their bedtime story books. Throughout the day children and families completed fun reading challenges. Children made costumes, wrote their own stories, baked character biscuits, made wooden spoon story characters, made bookmarks and worked together to make reading dens.
Children and adults alike had a wonderful day in school too! Year R made a wonderful reading den around characters such as ‘Barry the fish with fish fingers’ and ‘Norman the slug with the silly shell.’ Year 1 designed and made their favourite story character using a wooden spoon. Year 2 created a moving picture using a setting from their favourite story.
Most importantly it was a day where our love of reading was shared with our families.
Thank you to everyone who took part and parents for continuing to promote enjoyment and pleasure in reading.
