Today (28 April 2021) your child has brought home a letter regarding the proposal which has been presented to the school’s Governing Body to alter the school week.
It is proposed that from September 2021, on Fridays only, school will finish for all children at 1.15pm.
As a school, due to Covid-19 and class bubble organisation, we did try this approach in the Summer Term when we reopened in June 2020. We were pleased with how successful this approach was, and we would like to share some of the thinking behind the proposal to change the school week from September 2021.
Currently, your child is not taught by their class teacher for the whole of the school week. It is a statutory requirement that all teachers are provided with 10% non-contact time (PPA - Planning, Preparation and Assessment) which equates to approximately two and a half hours per teacher per week. This is often very difficult to timetable, especially as we want our staff to be able to liaise together to ensure consistency of the curriculum we offer across all classes within year groups.
At the moment we rely on part-time teachers and support staff to cover classes in order to facilitate PPA time. This proposal will enable staff to have their PPA time at the same time which will facilitate collaboration and the sharing of expertise.
The letter which was sent home, together with a PowerPoint presentation, can be found as documents below. Please take the time to read all of the information presented before completing the survey by clicking on the link.
