Year R learn the story of The Little Red Hen
Year R have had lots of fun learning the story of The Little Red Hen. To launch the story all the children made a bread roll to take home. They all rolled their own roll, watched it grow in size and then took it home to eat. To help the children learn new vocabulary linked to the story they were given first-hand experience of kneading dough, watering plants, looking at corn, grinding herbs and spices and baking bread. They also watched videos of a windmill and watermill grinding corn into flour and how a combine harvester cuts the corn on a big farm. The children looked at different types of bread and have done lots of craft activities linked to the story. The children have really enjoyed learning the story and look forward to using this story to make their own up!!!
